13 year old Yonatan takes on a quest to prove that his childhood hero, 21 year old Yoav, did not commit suicide and discovers a shocking truth about the army, the society and the values that we are educated by.
SYNOPSIS
13 year old Yonatan witnesses the death of 21 year old Yoav, a young army deserter who falls from his window on the sixth floor while hiding from Military Police.
Yonatan takes on a quest to prove that his childhood hero did not commit suicide . He discovers that Yoav, a very valued Paratroopers officer, had to act according to “Hannibal Protocol”*, and prevented an attempt to kidnap a soldier. This resulted in the loss of the life of Daniel, his platoon sergeant and best friend, and changed his life completely.
Yonatan’s journey will lead him to a painful and quick maturing having to accept the truth he so passionately quested.
*Hannibal Protocol is a semi-official and questionably legal IDF protocol whose purpose is to avoid at all costs a soldier kidnapping attempt from using a cold instrument to giving permission, when moderate means are exhausted, to shoot the soldier being kidnapped.
TRIGGER
As a Paratroopers Captain in reserves I know the protocol well. This protocol reduces the supreme value
of life sanctity, disrupts the trust between warriors and their commanders and has a real potential to create a trauma in a warrior who acts according to the protocol.
This situation demands an artistic expression that will expose this issue to public discussion.
