Yona - the loss of her father, love, drugs, madness, relationships, abortions and

self-inflicted solitude, inspire her unique and pragmatic voice as a poet.

SYNOPSIS

Yona, an 18-year-old girl, whose painful memories of a father who never returned from the

war, is always writing. She craves to be the “Madam Curie” of the soul, to know and try

everything. She refuses the security of the noncommittal bourgeoisie lifestyle in order to become

a poet, even though no one in the village she was born and raised in, encourages her to do

so. In the big cities: Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, she goes through countless lovers, both men

and women, suffers from sexual confusion, becomes pregnant several times, goes through

abortions, hospitalizations, and suicide attempts – but she never stops writing her poetry, as a

man and as a woman; poetry that since her death becomes stronger, the poetry of Yona Wallach.

TRIGGER

Yona Wallach lived to write and wrote to live. In the course of her short life, her poetry

spread like wildfire. Her death, at 41 years old, created a void which has never filled, and

perhaps never will be. The fuel to her fire was life itself and as long as the fire burned, so

did Yona’s path of self-destruction.
